RH (Reverse Harem) Is Taking Over My Life

...Again...

I used to read SO MANY Reverse Harem books. Like, I consumed them at an alarming rate (I mean, I read just as many other books as well, but that's not the point of this post.)

I think the one that really started me out was... Curse Of The Gods...? I picked it up on a whim not actually knowing what it was about, and it was SO FUNNY. And surprisingly amazing. So I just kept looking for them and reading more and more.

And then I just kind of stopped.

No real reason, it's just something that happens to me as a reader. I read so much of something and get burnt out, so I have to walk away from it for a while. Sometimes I go back to it and other times I don't.

But in the last month, I've read several, and have been looking for more to read. I tweeted about it and said that I was regressing back to the days where all I wanted was to read RH books. And I don't think that's actually the right word, because that word brings about a negative connotation...

I know WHY this sudden urge to read RH has hit me again. I'm not going to get into the reason WHY, because that would take far too long and literally no one would read through the whole post. Instead, I think I'll share some of my favorites.

As always, you can click on the cover of the book to be redirected to Goodreads in case you want to read up about them

Too bad Morgan has been consigned to the schoolroom, too valuable as the future heir to the crown to be risked. Not one to kick up her heels and do nothing, Morgan is determined to find out how to control her powers so she can protect what is hers...even if she has to sneak behind her team's backs to do so.

But what should've been a time to settle down with her mates turns deadly when secrets are exposed. Morgan is furious, but determined to fight for the chance to have a future with her men...even if she must challenge the sea queen to prove her claim on Draven.

The sea queen is vicious and will do whatever is necessary to get what she wants...and she wants Draven. There is always a price to pay for defying the queen, but her mates refuse to let Morgan pay the price alone.

When a deal is struck, Morgan and her team must survive the next three days of being hunted by the queen's mightiest champions. If she fails, she and her mates will die, and Draven will be forced into a life of slavery for all eternity.

My Review:

I am SO glad that there is going to be one more book in this series. There are so many things that I still need answers to!

The character and world-building in this series never fails to amaze me, and this one gave me just as many feels as the other two.

If you're looking for a hot and fast romance book, then this one isn't what you should be reading. The Academy of Assassins books are very much a slow burn series. And I love them all the more for it. Instead of hopping right into, well, you know... Character development happens, and we get to see the friendships build among the characters.

My Rating: 5 Stars
Publication Date: October 29, 2017
Paperback, 310 Pages

Summary From Goodreads:

ONLY ONE THING STANDS BETWEEN HUMANS AND THE DEADLY SUPERNATURAL WORLD…THE ACADEMY OF ASSASSINS.

Abandoned as a child and unable to remember her past, Morgan was raised as a hunter, one of an elite group of fighters sworn to protect humans from the dangerous paranormal creatures who invade our world…creatures such as herself. Her life changes the day she’s summoned to the Academy of Assassins, a school that trains witches and hunters to eradicate paranormals who prey on humans. Her first assignment—find and eliminate the killer who is using the Academy as their own personal hunting ground.

As Morgan delves deeper into the investigation, she will need to dodge assassination attempts, avoid the distraction of romantic entanglements with the devilishly handsome security expert, Kincade, and his maddeningly overprotective teammates, while keeping the volatile magic in her blood concealed from those who would use it for their own purposes. When the danger increases and the school is threatened, Morgan must unearth her missing memories before someone finishes the job they started so long ago—killing her and unleashing a plague that will consume the world.

My Review:

SO. I have been rather into Reverse Harem books lately. Uh uh... Stop right there, and get your mind out of the gutter (I know what you're thinking) Tut tut, shame on you.

As one reviewer so eloquently put it ( I don't remember who, I just remember reading it in a review somewhere) Harems are not all about the sex *insert slightly altered version of "All About That Base here* but more to do with the main character's relationship with her boys. For instance, some of my all time favorite Reverse Harem books are so PG  (some of them venture into the PG-13 Category, but oh well. For instance, I love Ouran High School Host Club, and Pretear, Classi 9... Yes, I know they're all Manga, but still. Reverse Harem. Cute. Not smutty. Also, you have the Academy by C.L. Stone,
which is super swoony and not smutty.

But I'm getting off topic.

I read Academy of Assassins, and oh my holy hot caaaaakes, it was magnificent. MAG. NI. FI. CIENT. I literally read it in one sitting, it was that good. And apparently I did not pay enough attention to the release date when I purchased the Kindle book, because I thought that there was more than one book already out. But no. Nope. Of course not. SO NOW I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMETIME NEXT YEAR BEFORE THE SECOND BOOK COMES OUT.

I am not okay.

I

Am

Not

Okay

Well, I mean, yes I am. But I am also very emotionally distraught as well. it was so good, and I haven't had a book that I've been so obsessed with in a while. I loved it so much that not only do I own the Kindle version, but I also went and ordered the actual paper back, because I like to underline my favorite parts in pencil, and leave little sticky notes inside, so when my friend inevitably reads the book, she'll get to see it all.

The cover is abso-freaking-lutely gorgeous. It really matched with how I pictured Morgan in my head.

I loved Morgan, and how she was so independent and kick a$$. She wasn't a damsel in distress, and she did  not need saving, thankyouverymuch.

I loved that she could hold her own with the boys, and didn't let anyone push her around. She also stood up for people when she saw that they were being treated poorly. She sometimes was a bit too independent and that caused her more trouble than it was worth, (if she would have just communicated better to people... but she'd been through a lot, and some people didn't want to be very communicative, so I understand)

I loved her relationship with the boys, yes even Kincade, even though he was pretty much a douche bag the whole way through.

I'm not sure who my favorite guy is.. I really like Ascher, and Draven, and Ryder, and I'm still on the fence about how I feel about Kincade and Atlas.

I totally called the Hellhound being an actual person, I just had no idea how important he'd actually end up being to Morgan.

There was so much going on so many twists and turns, and I love the fact that Morgan could take care of herself (which I have mentioned before) She was kicking a$$ and taking names, and she was also very tough emotionally as well. She went through so much growing up, but she didn't let it break her, instead she used that pain to make herself stronger.

So here I sit.

Waiting

waiting

waiting...

I need the next one now.

Please?
